What I Want For Mother’s Day

Mummy Confession: I’m terrible at giving gift ideas to anyone buying for me.

So I admitted, I didn’t quite know Mother’s Day was coming so soon. But honestly, my list of wants is similar to what I would want for any holiday, or occasion for gift giving, and most of them are free or close to it, and can be done even last minute. I vastly appreciate even just an I Love You (and here are ten ways to say it).
I know not every mum would say she wants these things, but maybe you feel the same? If you are after some real ideas for this coming Mother’s Day, then check out here, where others have graciously let me show you what they have suggested for the celebration!

Here are some things that will always be top choices on my list of “What I want”:

1. Time With My Family: A trip to the park, A Holiday, or just snuggling in front of a movie for everyone. I love my husband and my kids, and I love spending time together. We never get enough!

2. A Nice, Long, and Undisturbed Bath: It’s no secret that time to myself for very long is scarce, so a few hours would be amazing!

3. Pictures of My Kids/Pictures of My Family: I love my family, and cherish those photos taken of my babies, especially that they grow up so quickly. It’s rare to get a photo of our entire family, so that especially is something special. Whether it be a photo session, or some sneaky photos you have taken that I haven’t seen before, I would love it!

4. Crafts Done By My Kids For Me: Knowing that you worked together with my babies to put something together, and took the time to do this is a heartfelt and wonderful gift to receive! Bonus points if it’s a picture frame with a supplementary photo, or hand drawn picture of our family! Extra bonus points if they wrote their own name and “Mum.”

5. Gifts bought By My Kids: Let them go and choose something, no matter what it is. Give them their own money and a budget, and let them go for it. I love seeing things that they think I could use. It’s adorable.

6. Something You Think I Need/Something I Have Said I Need: Is there something I truly need but would never buy for myself? This is the perfect time to get it. For me personally, you can’t go past a good shirt, especially since my fashion sense is less than great. I prefer Kmart cheap basics over spending over $20 on a shirt.

7. Take Me Out: To a restaurant, on a shopping trip, on a date, the choice is up to you! One of the things I remember my husband doing for me was taking me to the shopping centre and basically tell me, “I’m buying you…..but I want you to pick it. This is what we’re getting today.” I’m not a big fan of shopping, especially alone, so to have him take me made all the difference.

So there, that’s what I want. What are you hoping for this Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day: A Compilation of Ideas!

Mummy Confession: I’m pretty terrible at remembering holidays other than the “main” ones, so it came as a little bit of a surprise that Mother’s Day is indeed this coming Sunday!

I have compiled a list of ideas, thanks to some other bloggers who are more on top of it than I am, in case you haven’t quite found that “little something” or idea you were after. Please feel free to share this post, or any of the links with anyone who could use some inspiration!

I do also have suggestions around what I would like for Mother’s Day, but it’s not necessarily much of a gift list.

If you have a website or blog and would like me to feature you on this list, feel free to leave a comment or fill out the contact form! We can always use ideas for gifts!

Is it truly the last minute and you did forget to get something and you want to have it on time for Mother’s Day? Check out my ideas for Super Last Minute Gift Ideas. Yes, it was for Christmas, but the ideas listed are for year round last minute events!

Ten Ways to Say “I Love You”

Mummy Confession: The words, “I love you” are spoken often in this house. I’ve always wanted my family to be like this, too.

Valentine's, Valentine's Day, love, I love you, say I love you, loves, ideas

As a tribute to the day, I have compiled a list (among the many) of ten ways to say, “I love you.” This is not solely for Valentine’s Day or other “special” days. I feel it is important to let those we love know this important message all the time!

10. Take a picture. Together.

Gone are the days where a camera has to be a heavy, expensive object taken out only for special occasions. Use your phone, use a camera, schedule a photo shoot, or go somewhere special and click to your heart’s content. Especially with the little loves, I’ve found that time goes by so quickly, and the kids have grown up, our hairs have greyed, and we wish we had recorded more in times past to reminisce and remember. I have plenty of pictures of the kids, but not enough of us together.

9. Go for a stroll, or a drive.

Walk hand-in-hand. This might be a necessity for those of us with small children, to prevent unwanted chases. Enjoy the scenery, take in the moments. Have a laugh, and catch up on the latest events. Make memories.  The outdoors are not only good for your health, but definitely help in feeling refreshed!

8. Do something nice.

Have you seen the dishes piling up, laundry in need of folding, or something your loved one keeps mentioning needs to get done? Do it for them without any expectations. The without expectations is a must.

7. Leave a note.

Write some kind words, encouraging quote, or just an “I love you” in a place for your loved one to find. Lunches, cars, bathrooms, or on the fridge. Be creative. Draw on the note if you have skills. Make a poem. Put it in a card. The written word is powerful, and so often these days, it seems to be used to hurt. Use your words for good.

Gifts, chocolates, lollies, candy, ideas
6. Give a gift.

It doesn’t have to be expensive. Just get a little something you know they like when you are doing the shopping. Make something yourself if you are blessed with the ability to create (I’m not good at homemade anything). Bake cookies. Knit a scarf. Anything can be given with love, and it always feels nice to give, as well as to receive something out of love.

5. Have a date. Just the two of you.

No, I’m not just talking husbands and wives. That’s a given, I think. Take your son or daughter out for some one-on-one time. This will look a bit different to an adult “date” but spending time together can be a great way to say I love you! Dress up, bring her flowers, open her door, and take her to her favourite meal. Yes, it may be McDonalds, but she will appreciate it. If your “date” is on the younger side, be sure to bring some entertainment along. (Just a wallet and some cards may even suffice.) You don’t even have to go out of the house!

4. Read together.

Reading isn’t just beneficial for you and your child, but read with your other half. Sappy poetry is a good suggestion but not necessarily all. Read books together. Dramatically recite song lyrics. Cuddle up together and enjoy! Better still, make it a family event!

3. Smile.

This one is so simple, and only requires a few seconds. Best done alongside another suggestion on this list. Look at them the way you did when you first fell in love, and smile. Take in their beauty all over again. (And no, again, I’m not talking only your partner, but also your children. Remember the day you fell head over heels for them.) Soak in and reflect on the moments you’ve made together.

2. Hug.

Hugs are powerful. The end. (Just be sure your love is ok with it.)

1. Just say it.

The most obvious way to say, “I love you” has to be just to say it. Nothing can be more simple than speaking the words to show you care. Words are powerful, so lets use them to build up and encourage, and to tell how much we appreciate the ones we love by just speaking those three words. I love you.

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas!

Mummy Confession: I’m all for sappy, cliche, lovey-dovey things!

Valentines gifts, valentine, valentines, Valentine's Day gifts, I love you, I love you sign language, baby, toddler, sibling, sibling love

So, I figured I would compile a list of suggestions for Valentines Day. Take note, these can be used Year-round anyways, but I know that many people buy gifts for Valentines as well. And, just in case you leave it until the last minute, check out this compiled list of last minute gifts.

Even if you don’t do “the Valentines thing” then keep these in mind for birthdays, Christmases, and other gift giving occasions!

Subscription Boxes
Some of the gifts I’ve been checking out a lot lately have been the monthly subscription boxes, and it seems as good a time as any to consider purchasing a once-off subscription or ongoing subscription!

The Loot Crate is possibly the top box I am interested in- solely for the fact that my husband is a self-professed geek. He loves all Marvel, DC Comics and associated topics, so this seemed like a great pick for him! I just got the original Loot Crate, BUT there are a ton of choices for this box! From Anime to Gaming, Marvel to J.K. Rowling, and even Pets. Search all of their boxes to find the one you love for the one you love! You will not be lacking choices with this gift. Use the link provided for $5 off your first box!

The Dollar Shave Club is another subscription box, and as it may appear solely for men, I assure you women could use this, too! (But maybe not a great Valentine’s Gift for her unless she has hinted for something of the type.) Subscriptions range from $4-$10 per month for 4-5 razors and you are free to stop at any time! What a bargain for razors!
This club is available to Australia, USA and Canada.

BellaBox is a woman’s beauty sample box with 5 or more beauty samples. (Right now, subscriptions are open for $12.95, and they are nearly sold out!)  For the men, there is Bellobox. This is a men’s quarterly box filled with men’s personal care products. And, if you know someone expecting, they even have a BellaBaby with varying baby products. These all contain surprises that vary box to box delivered straight to your door! Right now, they have a deal going for $5 off your first box!
These subscriptions are available to Australia only. (Search Google and I’m sure you can find something close.)

Wrappable Gifts
Ok, so if you prefer to have something to wrap up that’s a little more than just the typical card, flowers, and chocolates, here are some alternatives. I, however, love flowers and cards, too!

Yellow Octopus is a place to find unique gifts for that hard-to-buy-for person in your life. They have ideas in all price ranges. How neat is this scrabble magnets set?
Yellow Octopus does ship internationally, but the shipping rate is quite high (flat rate, $69)

Frank Body for all your body pampering needs! I recently stumbled upon this site and thought it a great idea for coffee lovers! Why? Their body scrub is coffee based! How cool! Definitely something different! They also have lovely kits with a variety of products if you aren’t quite sure what to choose. This has to be my top pick personally (hint hint hubs)!
This one is available worldwide, so get shopping!

For a fitness-inspired gift, how about the Jawbone Up-Move or Up24 for under $50, or the Garmin Vivofit for under $100! I know fitness trackers can be pricey, but these ones are generally affordable! Shipping for these varies from country to cohntry

Need a little something for the kiddies as well? The Amazon list is lacking for the tiny ones, but my little loves picked some of their favourites! Obviously, use toys according to their age recommendations.

Do you want to have something simple or more personalised than the suggestions mentioned so far? Check out my Pinterest Board for more Ideas (oh, and there’s some cute craft ideas for the kids to do as well)!

Whether your budget is big or small, or even if you don’t do anything at all, I hope these suggestions help with your gift giving (even if it’s a non-Valentine’s deal)!

What are your traditions for Valentine’s Day? Do you give gifts, cards, or something else? What do you like to receive?
