Most Comfortable Breast Pump

Disclosure: This pump was received in exchange for my honest opinion. As always, I give my honest opinion and I do not recommend products that I don’t love myself. See the disclosure policy for more details. Or why I disclose here.

The Dr. Brown’s manual breast pump is the most comfortable pump I have used. The silicone breast shield moulds perfectly, making it feel like practically nothing. If you are after a pump to express and want one for comfort, this is a pump to look into!

My Experience

EASE OF — USE

Ease of use? This pump was very straightforward and easy to assemble and use. There are no buttons to figure out, and it is just a one motion pump.
Easy to clean? It was very simple and easy to clean as all of the parts come apart well and you don’t need much more than a bottle brush. It is also dishwasher safe!
Easy to store? As it is a smaller pump, it can be stored fully assembled. If you take it apart, it is very easy to store away.
Easy to put together? I didn’t need to use an instruction pamphlet for assembly, so it was very easy to put together.
Parts come apart? Everything comes apart pretty well, and makes it easy to store away and clean.

FUNCTIONALITY

Quiet? It is a manual pump, so there is no motor noise, and it is quiet.
Quick? It does not work very quickly, as it is a manual pump.
Comfortable? It is the most comfortable breast pump I have used. No pain in pumping at all, and you can barely feel that is is there.
Suction is sufficient? The suction isn’t very high. It pumps about as quickly as hand expressing. I will fill in details if I get any advice on increasing the suction.
Portability? It is portable, even fully assembled. However, if you take it apart, it is even more compact.
Volume? The included bottle holds 120ml. You can purchase bottles that range from 60ml through 210ml in various types.

OVERALL

Overall, The Dr. Brown’s manual breast pump was the most comfortable breast pump that I have used! The unique and flexible breastcup moulded well and ensured for a proper fit. It was compact and easy to store away for future use, or for travelling. Since there is no motor, it is quiet and easy to use. There are no complicated buttons or anything to figure out with this pump at all. Since it has a great bottle system with it, you can easily express and feed to baby, or store away for future use without needing to transfer to another bottle. The only considerations with this pump is the handle is a little bigger than other manual pumps, so it was more difficult to use one-handed for me with my smaller hands. The suction and one phase for expressing made it a little slower to express as well than some manual pumps I have used (but I have also used ones before which are a lot slower and painful even). Manual pumps are a bit more affordable than electrics, so the Dr. Brown’s pump is a good option for an affordable manual pump which is comfortable to use.

CONSIDERATIONS

  • It does not work as quickly as an electric pump
  • The handle for the pump is a little larger (for someone with small hands, it can be more difficult to use one-handed)
  • The suction could be a bit better, as it didn’t seem very strong
  • It only has one phase of expressing
