Mummy Confession: I don’t like talking about “that time of the month,” but I will now because you need to know about this innovation in underwear. Perfect for weak kegels and the week of your period.
Disclosure: I was provided a one product from Modibodi for the purpose of the post, and I purchased a couple more at my own expense. All opinions are my own, and I do not recommend products unless I love them myself! Please see my disclosure policy for further details, or why I disclose here.
Use this link for $15 off $80 or more (and I’ll get $15, too).
**Update** After around two years of using the Modibodi range on and off, I can say that my overall review remains the same for the range. I have yet to have a leak through the heavy range and find the lighter range great to wear in consideration of my prolapse. **
Whether you are a tampon, pad, or menstrual cup lady, there seems to be every which way to deal with your period. What if I told you that you could purchase a product and not have to worry about your underwear staining or leaking during those days?
What if I told you that you didn’t need to use tampons, pads, or even a menstrual cup?
Yes, I rolled my eyes a bit, too. But, Modibodi is a line of underwear for women and girls that you can wear along with or in the place of other products while on your period.
Let’s face it, it’s embarrassing to think of how many ruined pairs of undies you’ve had because everything happens a bit sooner than you think (or maybe you have an erratic cycle)! These underwear were designed with women in mind.
INNOVATION IN THE MAKING
They have even introduced a swimwear range , activewear range and a range for teens! How cool is that?
30 Day Trial
Modibodi offers a 30 day risk free trial to first time customers on one pair of Modibodi underwear. If you are curious to see if these will work for you, I suggest taking up this offer, and check out the details for the 30 day trial policy here.
Ok, that’s the gist of it, but how do they really work?
Well, I’ve tried them (mind you, two pairs over the course of a month or so), and have jotted down my thoughts about the different features and experience with Modibodi. If it’s any encouragement, I’m planning to get a few more pairs! And, with their 30 day trial policy, there’s not much to lose!
I know I was one to look at the price and go “that’s an expensive pair of panties,” so I understand your reservations about them, but I think it’s one of those “you need to try this” to see if they work for you (but I have nothing but good things to report from my experience really)!
~Features~
Various Underwear for Different Flows: 5/5
Modibodi carries a range of underwear from moisture wicking to heavy flow which holds up to two tampons worth. From mums who have the occasional sneezepee to wearing in the place of pads, tampons, or cups during your menstrual cycle. They even carry sizes suitable for 8-10 year olds! This would be a great product to get for girls who may not have started into puberty yet, to have as a “just in case,” too!
Style/Design Choice: 4/5
I found when trying to purchase various styles sold out quicker than others, and it was my size that sold out fairly quickly, too. The range of choice is fairly large, with thongs, briefs, bikinis, and boyleg to choose from. They do have a few colours to choose from. The style for the heavy flow isn’t my cup of tea, as the high rise bikini style doesn’t work well under low rise jeans (unless you want to show a little lace). You just would need to be mindful of this and dress accordingly.
Size Ranges: 5/5
From size 2 (8-10 years old) to size 26 (6XL US), Modibodi has sizes for nearly everyone! I love that they cover a whole range of styles and sizes so you can find one that works for you! As I mentioned before, the middle of the range sizes seem to sell out quickly, so if you subscribe to their newsletter or follow their Facebook, you can usually get an alert when they do become available.
~My Experience~
Coverage: 4.5/5
While I found the heavy flow underwear to be decent covering the back, they did stop a little short in the front of where I would still consider an area where it would be useful. The heavy flow is a bit thicker and covers a little higher in the front, though. The lighter flow underwear only had a liner size in the bottom of the underwear and a little in the front. I can’t complain of any leakage while I was wearing them, either.
Feeling: 4/5
When first putting them on, they did feel bulkier then a typical pair of underwear. However, after wearing them for a bit it just felt like normal. They did seem to keep me feeling fresher than a liner or pad would. And it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a nappy. I was a bit concerned about how bulky they would feel (and of course they need to be absorbent). Probably not something to wear under a super tight pair of clothing, but I definitely can’t wear tight clothing during those days anyways!
Washing: 4/5
You are advised to rinse off the underwear in the sink before washing them, and wash in cold water (no softeners) and lime dry. They do take around a day to day and a half to dry inside, so you will need to purchase few pairs to get you through the whole week. If it is a warmer day and you dry them outside, the time should be reduced. The heavier the flow underwear, the longer I will take to dry. Washing wasn’t too much of a fuss, but I washed them separate to other clothing, too.
Summary: Try them!
While I won’t delve into too many more details, I was truly surprised at this innovation, and I had to share! I was honestly impressed with how well they performed. I didn’t expect something to actually be used in place of my normal regime during that time, but the heavy range made it all the way overnight without a sign of leaking.
I don’t know about you, but I’m always worried about overnight leaks, but the heavy protection goes all the way up the back of the underwear to prevent it.
I would highly recommend women try this at least once, and find a few pairs to have as a staple in your closet! Whether you’re dealing with light discharge, fearing leaks during pregnancy, waiting for the arrival of your cycle or on your period, these are a good investment!
They do even carry a singlet top that says it’s great for breastfeeding mums and reduces the need for breast pads. I’m curious about this, but I will need to check it out another time as I’m not currently breastfeeding!

What do you love as a product for “that time of the month”? Have you given these a try or anything like them?

WOW I think I would be a bit too worried to try these but they are definitely an innovation.
I was definitely hesitant to try them! I had been seeing things about them for so long, and I’m glad I did take the chance and try them! Amazing innovation! I’m excited to see how their swimwear works, too!
I have to give you credit for at least trying these! They do look cute!
Haha thanks! I’m glad I did try them in the end! The 30 day money back guarantee definitely provides incentive to try as well!
I think I have heard of these! I wondered if they really worked. Very interesting!
I’ve always wondered, too, and I’m glad I did give them a go!
I love this. I recently switched to cloth pads and ditched the disposables, eventually I am hoping to switch to something like this as I think it would be more comfortable. I’ve been researching different brands and have never heard of this particular brand. Thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely be looking into these products a bit further.
I’ve seen several brands as well! It doesn’t hurt to try this brand, as they do offer the 30 day trial on one pair!
This idea is interesting. Thanks for the review
Wow! I’ve never heard of anything like this before. So interesting!
Wow this really looks like a great invention! Definitely something I’ll look more into!
Veey interesting! I’d be intrigued to try as I have a heavy flow and am looking for products that work better. ?
