Winter Sleep Wear Your Baby Needs in Their Wardrobe!

Mummy Confession: I have a problem. I absolutely adore babies and children’s products. Especially clothing. And sleepwear. Give me all the jammies!

Disclosure: The following products have been provided for me to review and feature. However, all the opinions and recommendations are my own. I never recommend something I haven’t tried or wouldn’t purchase myself. See the full disclosure policy for details.
Be sure to check out your favourites, as some have coupon codes or giveaways going 🙂

With winter already being here, and the freezing weather upon us, I wanted to find some of the best sleepwear out there for my little cherubs and pass it on to you! Boy, did I find some great things! From pyjamas to sleeping bags to eczema friendly, and even some transitional swaddle products, there’s a little bit of everything here! I have options here for US and Australia, and even worldwide! (So Americans, you can help prepare for this coming winter!)

I wanted to include even more, however I was unable to try everything. Since I don’t like to recommend products without actually trying them myself (and I don’t have the funds to purchase every product on the market), I have only included products that I have been provided with through the generosity of these great brands.

I haven’t received anything that I don’t like, so I am happy to say, buy all the stuff! I have included  a summary below of each product, and a link to my more detailed review if you are interested in checking out more about it! Feel free to share with all of your friends and family for some gift suggestions for bub (since these brands make more than just winter sleepwear). Please, check them all out, as some have lovely surprises for my readers 🙂

baby dee dee Sleepsie: Review & Coupon Code

Mummy Review: When I saw this cosy looking pair of footless  pyjamas, I had to ask about trying them to see how they fared for winter!

I hadn’t heard of baby dee dee before trying to find sleepwear for babies, and I am so glad that I have! This great brand makes some cosy winter sleepwear for babies and toddlers. This particular suit is just one of several options for sleepwear that baby dee dee creates. When I saw this innovative between the legs zipper, I had to check it out!

About the Brand: baby dee dee was created by a mum who desired to have a sleeping bag like a cocoon for her baby who had trouble sleeping. She created the Sleep nest sleeping bag, and went on to create other products that help baby’s sleep.

~My Experience~
My baby seemed to like this Sleepsie enough, and I like that the foot is an open foot design, to allow for bigger feet. The fabric was soft and felt breatheable for keeping bub from being too warm at night. The knee and elbow pads are a cute accent and do seem to help a little with my crawling child as he can tend to be hard on his legs and knees. The sizing was good and tight fitting, though it also fit my child who is around a 2-3 size without any issues of being too tight. The colour is gorgeous and perfect for girls or boys.

The Material~ Indian Jersey Cotton. This material feels super soft and comfortable! I wish I had something out of this soft cotton for myself.

The Design~ The simple colours are perfect for this Sleepsie, and I love the minty green colour! The elbow and knee pads add a certain cuteness to the suit as well. It also comes in blue and pink.

The Zippers~ This sleepsuit has two zippers. One regular zipper for putting the sleepsuit on, and one across the bottom to use for nappy changes. The one along the bottom is ingenious and perfect for changing! I found it was easy enough to change with this zipper, and a brilliant idea so baby doesn’t have to get out of the whole suit to change.

Long Sleeve Design~ For the winter months, the long sleeve design is great. It comes in short sleeve as well for summer time, but I love the arms being covered regardless of season to prevent scratching.

Sizing~ This pyjama is very tight fitting and snug. We have the 18-24 Months size and it seems to fit my child who fits well into 12-18 month sizes. I might recommend sizing up The Sleepsie Pajamas come in sizes 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-18 months, 18-24 months, and size 2.

Mummy Confessions Scale for Winter Sleep Wear-
Easy to put on: 4/5– Because the Zipper along the length of the suit doesn’t go all the way down to the feet, it is a little more difficult to get on a squirmy baby, but not too difficult.
Stays on: 5/5- The suit is tighter fitting, so no issues with baby getting out of it when he shouldn’t.
Easy to change baby in: 4.5/5 – The between the leg zipper makes it especially easy to change baby without waking or taking the entire suit off. It can be a bit hard to zip back up with a squirmy baby, but not that bad.
Easy to take off: 4/5– Quite easy to remove, the tightness makes it a slight challenge with a squirmy baby, but easy enough to remove.
Keeps baby warm in winter: 5/5– The Indian cotton is very soft and warm.
Baby likes it? Baby didn’t seem to have any problems with it, though it was a little long, I just rolled up the legs and it was fine. My size 2-3 child loved the soft feel as well.
Material: 5/5 – Super soft cotton. I love the material!
Sizing: 4/5 – It seemed a little tight fitting. My bub is usually in a 12-18 months and this 18-24 Months size seemed tight, but long on him. You may want to size up depending on how chunky your baby is. It seemed to just fit my size 2-3 child, but wasn’t too tight, somthe matrial does have some stretch.

Overall Rating of baby dee dee : 4.5/5
Overall, I love the soft material, and I love the look with the elbow and knee pads. The material seems breatheable and warm, yet a little tight fitting. I think the between the legs zipper is amazing to have on baby clothing, and would help a lot for nighttime changes. The overall look is gorgeous, the feel is soft, and bub seems to like it. My child who wears a size 2-3 loved it as well, and has been asking to wear it around the house a bit lately. A win for mum and bubs!

Sleepy Hugs: A Review & Coupon Code!!!

Mummy Review: I’m always on the lookout for making transitioning baby to better sleep, so it’s a no-brainer when I found this option of Sleepy Hugs as a swaddle transition, that I wanted to try it for my sleep-resistant baby!

Disclosure: This product has been provided in exchange for a feature and review, however all opinions are my own, and I only feature products I love. See the full disclosure policy for details.

For the coupon code, see “Where to buy” below 🙂

As my baby struggles in his sleep and staying in his own safe space, as well as keeping warm, I have been looking for alternatives to the traditional sleeping bags and swaddles. I found this brilliant design of the Sleepy Hugs sleeping bag as a great option for Sleepwear! Built in three different thicknesses for varying seasons, and preventing my baby from scratching his sensitive eczema prone skin, this Sleepwear alternative is a lovely little option for any time of the year!

About the Brand~ Baby Loves Sleep is an Australian brand created by a mum with a desire to make transitioning from a swaddle much easier. Sleepy Hugs was designed to give the security of a swaddled  feeling with the freedom to move at the same time. It’s unique wide Bottom design makes it perfect for babies I hip braces as well! It is available for purchase worldwide.

My Experience~ My baby loved the comfort of the Sleepy Hugs, and I loved his hands being protected from escaping and scratching everywhere! I did find it runs a little big, so for my littlest child it may have been ok to order down a size. The Large 12+ Months size fits my child who is between a size 2-3 nicely. The material is soft and not too thick. I have tried the year round thickness, and it would be perfect for winter, just putting bubs in some nice light clothing underneath. I also have the lighter spring/summer weight, which is a little lighter for the warmer nights.

The Material~ 95% Cotton (And 5% elastane for the stretch) . The Sleepy Hugs also uses cotton fabrics that have passed the OEKO-TEK standard (this just means no dangerous chemicals have been used in producing the actual textile fabric).^ The material seems breatheable and smooth, good for all year round. I do have a spring/summer material one as well, and this material is a little thinner cotton than the all year round. A winter/fall weight is also available which would be thicker than the year round and spring/summer weights.

The Design~ I love the Sleepy eyes design for either boy or girl. I think it’s simply adorable! They have some lovely prints in each season ranging from pastels to prints.

The Zippers~ The two Zippers allow for middle of the night changing, so great overall for that concept! It makes it so much easier! You can unzip from either side without an issue. Plus, the Zipper goes all the way around the side and bottom, making it much easier to change a sleeping bub! It does have a cover for the top, so the zipper isn’t in baby’s face.

Wide Bottom Shape~ The Sleepy Hugs has a wide bottom shape to fit hip dysplasia brace/harness better (and it has actually been designed with hip dysplasia in mind).^ The wide bottom also gives plenty of room for bubs, and a roomy feel!

Enclosed/Long Sleeve Design~ This is especially beneficial to a baby with eczema like mine, to prevent scratching! This is so helpful, especially with the mainly cotton material. The enclosed sleeve also gives a little resistance to give the security of a swaddle without the restriction. Sleepy Hugs indicates that the largest size gives a bit more freedom to move compared with the smaller sizes.

Sizing~ The Large 12+ Months size seemed a little baggy on my baby in the 12-18 Months range, but it was great for my child in a little bigger sizes (about a size 2) with a little room to spare. It still kept bub inside and prevented him from scratching. I may have been better with a Medium 6-12 Months size. Sleepy Hugs is available in sizes XSmall (0-12 Weeks), Small (3-6 months), Medium (6-12 months), Large (12+ months). The large size gives full range of movement.

Mummy Confessions Scale for Winter Sleep Wear-
Easy to put on: 5/5-
So easy to put on, and with two zippers, you can have it however open you need to put it on your baby or toddler.
Stays on: 5/5- If you get the proper size, it will stay on, and baby can’t really get out. It does tend on the roomy side.
Easy to change baby in: 5/5 – With two zippers, and one that goes all the way around the bottom, simple to change baby in, and baby can’t grab either!
Easy to take off: 5/5- Super easy.
Keeps baby warm in winter: 4.5/5– With the various weights, you can either layer with the all year round sleepy hugs, or pick the autumn-winter weight which is a little thicker. Recommendations are on their website.
Baby likes it? Baby seemed to be ok with it, though he would prefer his feet to be free. It did give enough space to move around a bit though.
Material: 5/5 –I love the breathable cotton and it didn’t feel harsh on the skin.
Sizing: 4.5/5 – The sizing did seem a little big, but I think for my littlest, I just needed a smaller size. It fit my size 2-3 bub perfectly snug. Use the measurements as a guide when picking the proper size.

Overall Rating of Sleepy Hugs: 4.5/5-
Overall, I was happy with the idea of the swaddle transition sleep wear, and the way it prevented my baby from scratching and gave a little resistance not found in other sleepwear. I love the all around zipper and the option for various seasons. The patterns are simple and cute. I think they are a great option, especially for littler ones struggling to sleep at night because of the transition to a regular sleeping bag, or babies struggling with scratching. I think it’s amazing that it was designed with hip braces in mind, because it can be hard to find sleepwear that works with them! I would love to see this with some feet at another point in time for my sleeping bag resistant baby!

Woolbabe Sleep Suit: A Review

Mummy Review: When I first think of wool, I think itching, scratching and discomfort. Apparently fine merino wool provides the warmth, but none of those other uncomfortable feelings!

Disclosure: I was gifted the Merino/Cotton Sleepsuit in exchange for a review. However, my opinion and any recommendations are my own. Please see my disclosure policy for further information.

Before I came to Australia, layering up seemed to be the main way to keep the winter chill off my back. Since moving to Sydney, I’ve heard so much about merino wool and clothing made out of this warm, yet cool for hotter weather, material.

When I think of wool, the one thing that came to mind was itchiness. So surely for my eczema baby, this wasn’t an option. However, after reading a few articles, it seems that the finer merino wool is a great material for babies with eczema and other sensitivities.

About the Brand: Woolbabe is a brand creating comfortable, merino blend sleeping bags, sleepsuits, pyjamas, and swaddle wraps. Their cotton/merino blend is perfect for winter time, especially those night hours when everything gets a bit chilly. They’ve based a company on products that help keep baby cosy. We all know when baby is cosy, everyone sleeps better!

~My Experience~

I was provided with the Cotton/Merino Sleepsuit to try with my baby, and I must say, when I took it out, it was so soft and not too thick. It didn’t feel itchy or scratchy, and I love that it has a two way zip for nighttime changes. I’ve actually put pants over top for the daytime, so baby won’t dirty up the suit, because he currently crawls everywhere! It kept him warm without working up a sweat, and the sizing was perfect. All around, I was impressed with the suit.

The Material~ 30% merino/70% cotton jersey fabric.
The material is soft and warm. Yet, it didn’t make my baby sweat in the night, which is common with his normal pyjamas.

The Design~ The Simple stripes pattern is a favourite of mine, and you can’t go past this classic look!
The sleepsuit is available in Piha (the navy/grey colour shown on my bub),  Rata (Red), Tide (Minty Green), Pebble (light grey), and Dusk (Dusty Rose)

The Zippers~ The two Zippers are great for changing Baby! I love double zips, because they make changing baby a whole lot easier! If you need to remove the whole outfit, no matter which side you have unzipped, it is easy enough to meet them in the middle and remove the suit and not mess up the whole baby in the process.

Long Sleeve Design~ With an eczema prone baby, long sleeves are a must, as he scratches constantly. In winter especially, it helps to keep everything warm and cosy in addition to preventing painful scratching. I love the open foot design, as it lends itself to be used longer, not only when baby’s feet are too big.

Sizing~ This Sleep Suit seems to run true to size. On my baby it’s a little big, which is how most 12-18 Months sizes run on him.
The Sleep Suit is available in sizes 6-12 months through 4 years.

Cost&Where to buy~ $49.95 & Only available in Australia and New Zealand through The Sleep Store or select Woolbabe stockists.

Mummy Confessions Scale for Winter Sleep Wear-
Easy to put on: 4.5/5 – not too difficult at all, just trying to manoeuvre my little one’s left leg can be fun, because he’s a roller!
Stays on: 5/5- nice and loose but not super baggy, and he can move freely without getting it caught on anything
Easy to change baby in: 5/5– the zipper is great for access, despite my baby putting up a fight every change
Easy to take off: 5/5– super easy and not too much fussing around,  even if you unzip the bottom and they need the whole thing off!
Keeps baby warm in winter –5/5 for sure!
Baby likes it? Baby keeps nice and cosy in it, and it doesn’t upset his eczema prone skin. I say he likes it!
Material: 5/5 – warm and yet doesn’t make my baby sweat
Sizing: 5/5 – great sizing options from 6-12m through size 4 (and they have separate pyjamas as well through to 8 years)

Overall Rating of Woolbabe Cotton/Merino Sleep Suit: 5/5
I’ve already washed this sleep suit a few times, and it has done well, so long as you take care to use quality wool wash and wash according to the directions, then it should be fine. Baby seems to do well in it and stay cosy, just like the brand intends! It can be worn for sleep or just around the house, or under other clothing if really cold. He does itch a little, but honestly, that’s his eczema more than the wool. It has helped regulate his temperature and he hasn’t been sweaty at all. He tends to be a hot baby, so this is a great thing for him! I would highly recommend it as an item in your baby or toddlers closet this winter!

Congratulations to Amara Ransley for winning a Woolbabe Cotton/Merino Sleepsuit of your very own in our Facebook Competition!
