Good Causes To Support In October and November

Mummy Confession: I often feel guilty for not doing enough for those less fortunate than my family.

As Christmas and the holiday season approaches (yes, I just said Christmas…I know it’s not even October, but please follow me) there are various great causes support and see how you can help! This is by no means a complete list of what there is out there (definitely only a few), but they are a few that are on my heart for this coming season. Some of these are only a once a year thing and others are year round. Mainly, this is an Australian list, however there are a couple US causes and a UK cause as well.

Disclosure: Just as a note, none of these organisations have asked or encouraged me to write anything for them. This is written of my own accord and is not sponsored or endorsed by these organisations.

What causes do you support?

Time Specific Initiatives

The Nappy Collective: October 13-27 (Australia)

The Nappy Collective is a nappy donation drive for unused disposable nappies. I’m sure if you use them, you may have a few lying around that bubs has outgrown? Here is the perfect place to help! Obviously, you can purchase and donate nappies as well, but why not give the ones your bub won’t be using anymore as well?

Share the Dignity #ItsinthebagNovember 18-December 2 (Australia)

Share the Dignity puts on a few events each year, but around Christmas time, they have an initiative where you pack a handbag with various essentials for women that we may take for granted. I can’t imagine not supporting this cause, so I encourage you to do the same! These handbags are given to women in need to help and encourage them. Further information will be available on their website once the collection points are open.

Operation Christmas Child

#onemorebox: October 31 (Australia & New Zealand)
November 13-20 (USA)
#IPACKSHOEBOXES: From October 1st (UK)

Operation Christmas Child is a cause which donates packed shoe boxes to children in need. People are asked to pack a shoebox (or one of their pre-set boxes) with items for various aged children and drop them off at collection points and donating a cost for each box to cover costs. OCC is a Christian organisation run by Samaritan’s Purse. You can even follow your box labels to see where your box is going!

Year Round Initiatives

Mater Little Miracles: Year Round (Australia)

I became aware of Mater Little Miracles when doing The Great Nappy Review 2017. This organisation helps by investing in life-saving research, care and equipment to help tiny babies. You can support them by either donating, holding a fundraiser, volunteering, corporate sponsorship, or buying merchandise such as Mater nappies.

Carry The Future #CarryalltheBabies: Year Round (USA)

I have only recently discovered Carry The Future by way of searching, but this is another great cause to either donate funds, time, or materials to help refugee women in need. You can donate new or gently used Carriers, or donate funds to help refugee women in need with diapers, baby beds, and other supplies that are needed across the various refugee camps around the world. They even work with people who want to go first hand to help deliver these supplies. What a fantastic opportunity!

Thank You Brand: Year Round (Australia)

This is another brand I became a little more aware of the efforts they go towards helping through The Great Nappy Review 2017. Not only are they a reliable nappy, but they have a range of products from baby to personal care to food for which the proceeds go to help bring safe water, food, hygiene and sanitation services to people in need around the world. You can support this organisation by purchasing their purchasing one of their many products, or becoming an ambassador for the brand.

Wonder Woman Children Education: Year Round (Australia)

I’ve been following WWC Education on Facebook now for some time since my friend Mumma Morrison had written about them in one of her posts about their First Aid Kit (see it here). It is so important as a parent to know first aid, especially when you are the person who is around them most of their day! WWC Education is currently advocating for Family First Aid to be taught across Australia. You can help by signing their petition to the Australian government to take action, or in the mean time purchase one of they My First Aid Kits to help fund free Family First Aid courses to families in need.

Like I’ve said before, this is not an exhaustive list of the great places to help, or all of the places out there that I support, however I just wanted to raise a little awareness should you be looking for somewhere to help out any time of the year!

No worries! Thank you for reading!

Most of them are Australian based (as I live in Aus), but I would love to hear if you know of any that are similar and based in the US!

    • mummyconfessions says:

Defintely! The holidays seem to bring out different awarenesses at times, but we do need to remember that there are people and causes in need all year long!

What a great roundup of causes! I love operation Christmas child! It’s always a lot of fun to participate in!

    • mummyconfessions says:

I love it, too! My kids really enjoyed shopping for “their” kid and can’t wait to put the boxes together! It’s a great way to help your children learn about different cultures and needs around the world and in their own neighbourhood!

These are great causes. I have also teamed up with different charities for the school where I work. Parents are really eager to help children in need.

    • mummyconfessions says:

As a parent, I’ve found that my eyes are opened to all of these new needs and just need to do something to help other kids because of just being a parent and thinking about my child.

  4. Lisa says:

These are great causes! I have only heard of operation Christmas Child (in America).

    • mummyconfessions says:

Most of these are in Australia, so I can understand how people haven’t heard of most of them! Operation Christmas Child is just something so cool!
