The Gro Company: Helpful Bedtime Products for Babies & Toddlers

Mummy Confession: I love the Gro Company and all of their latest products just reinforce that love.

Disclosure: I was provided the following products in exchange for this post. All opinions and love for these products is my own. See my discloser policy for details or why I disclose here. This post contains affiliate links by which I earn commissions from qualifying purchases.

The Gro Company just keeps making new innovations and improvements on good products! (You may have seen my write up on the GroBag and GroEgg before.) Since I love talking about new things, I wanted to show you a bit of what has just been introduced lately from the Gro Company and give my two cents on the different products now available.

Ollie The Owl by The Gro Company

Ollie the Owl

We just love Ollie the Owl! From his soft covering to the nightlight which adjusts to three different brightnesses, the kids took to him straight away. My little Prince is used to listening to white noise while trying to sleep, so I thought Ollie would be the perfect addition to his bedtime routine! I especially love that he has a cry sensor to have the noise or music start up again when it hears baby crying. It has three sounds and one lullaby to choose from, which you can select by clicking the buttons in the wings.
Price: $79.95
Where to buy: The Gro Company Store or select baby stores

My Observations:
Volumes: With three options for volume, I thought it was a great range and nothing was too loud or too soft.
The buttons: They were easy to push and made for a bit of a play for the bub while I was trying to get him to sleep. In the end, though, he selected one that he settled to and left it alone.
Crysensor: It worked once you figured out how to get it going. It really came in handy. Though, I generally just keep the noise on all night, this helped to only use the noise when bubs was fussing. It worked well and sensed even fairly quiet noises, so great detecting!
Velcro Fastening: As toys and things are not suggested to have in cots for babies and toddlers, I would opt to have this just outside the cot for babies as old as mine (who tends to throw it outside the cot anyways). Our cot rails are a little thick to use the fastening anyways, so he would just sit in the cot. I would also possibly take this out of the cot if it may distract your baby having something to play with, and keep them awake rather than sleeping.
Battery Life: The batteries lasted (for us) around three weeks with nightly and nap time use. If you factor in the fact that the kids wanted to endlessly carry it around and play with it as well, I’m sure the battery life is great.

Overall, I love this innovation in sleep for babies. If my child had started off with it (rather than a while into his life before having one), I can say it may have made a bit more of a difference to his sleep. Though, he did fall asleep fairly well with the white noises he chose. The four options for noise and music are great, and the nightlight feature is lovely, too! I especially love that there is a cry sensor, so you don’t have to worry about putting it on again if bubs stirs. (And you don’t have to sneak into the room to put it on again.) Plus, he’s just so adorable! He is made to blend with any decor, and I just think his cuteness helps, too!

The Gro Egg 2 (with Ollie the Owl)

GroEgg 2

Compared with the original Gro Egg, there are some differences I noticed straight off. The Gro Egg 2 is softer and slightly larger than the original. It also has adjustable brightness levels, in case you want a softer light, or even no light. It still has the temperature reading, and the light changes according to the temperature (which also matches up with the colour indication on the GroBag). Using a GroBag or Gro Swaddle in conjunction with the Gro Egg 2 is a great combination for worry-free sleep. I love that it doubles as a nightlight, and the kids really love having it in the room, as the glow isn’t too overpowering. Now you do need to have a USB cord that plugs in to the Gro Egg and it isn’t provided, so be sure you note this when purchasing your Gro Egg 2.

My Observations:
Size: The egg is a bit bigger than the original Gro Egg (see photo below), and I found it to be a bit more stable because of the wider base. The size isn’t too big and not too small.
Brightness: It allows the Gro Egg to be a fair bit brighter than the original or even turned off. I think the range of brightness levels are great! Four options including no light mean a perfectly adjusted nightlight for baby.
Ease of Use: Super simple to use, as you just plug it in! You do need an adaptor for USB, but we had one just around the house anyway. It would be nice to have one provided or prominently displayed that you will need to purchase it if you don’t have it though. So if you bought this and urgently needed to use it, you need to be aware of that.
Power cord: You need to supply your own USB cord, as one is not provided. They are easy enough to get, and chances are you have one around the house anyway.  The USB adaptor is great, though, because it means any USB plug will work with the Gro Egg 2.
Temperature Reading: The temperature reading is the brilliant part of this, and it stays accurate. I love that the way it displays in lights, which makes it easier to read. The colour is also indicative, so that is great. It’s easy to read in the dark, and easy to distinguish the colour associated with the temperature (and suggested layers), too!

Overall, The kids were excited to see the new bigger and brighter Gro Egg! It is a little easier to read in the dark (for me), and I love the soft feel. The dimmer is a great feature to have, and will come in handy for us. My  only problem is that if I didn’t just have a USB connector on hand, it would not be possible to plug in (or I have to use a charger for my phone, which I usually use overnight). Otherwise, I love this little nightlight thermometer! It helps me with anxiety that the room may be too hot or cold, or dressing the kids appropriately for bedtime.

The Gro Bag 1.0tog (6-18 months) with friend Ollie the Owl

Gro Bag: Sleeping Bag

The Gro Bag comes in so many adorable designs and several togs (or seasonal weights). They have even created one with insect shield, which is designed to repel insects! We have tried the 2.5tog as well as this new 1.0tog rated Gro Bag. They carry a range of .5tog through to 3.5tog, so there is one for every temperature, and you can always layer your child accordingly. They provide suggestions for how to layer on every Gro Bag anyways (and offer the Gro Suit as an option for cooler nights). For babies who like the feeling of a blanket without the fuss of kicking them off, the Gro Bag is a good option for sleep during nap time and bedtime.
You can check out my more detailed review of the GroBag 2.5tog here, which is similar to this one.
Price: $59.95-$79.95
Where to buy: The Gro Company store or select baby stores
Sizes and togs available: Sizes 0-6months, 6-18months, 18-36months, 3-6 years and 6-10years;   .2tog, .5 tog, 1.0tog, 2.5tog, 3.5tog

My Observations:
Size: 6-18months Tog: 1.0tog
The Zipper: The zipper goes from bottom to top, so there is no fidgeting around to try and get it lined up to zip.
The Buttons: Two shoulder snap shot and one snap to keep the side all sorted. This helps with getting baby in and out of the sleeping bag. They are sturdy and easy to use.
The Sizing: The sizing is just like the other Gro Bags I have had and suits my child who is currently in 12-1m (1) sizes with a little room to spare.
The Tog Rating:The tog Rating is great for spring time and early summer. The thickness and material are perfect for warmer nights where you still want to be sure bub is warm enough.

Overall, I love this version of the GroBag (and did you hear, they make insect shield GroBags too, to help with insect repelling)! The light weave cotton in 1.0tog is great for spring and early summer and it’s easy to get baby in and out. Being 100% cotton, it’s great for breathability and my baby’s skin, which tends to be eczema prone. It’s the perfect GroBag for the weather! It tends to be a little looser around the shoulders than some other sleeping bags, but fits a bit more snug as baby gets bigger. They have so many tog ratings and designs, you won’t have trouble finding one you love, too! (Hopefully I can update this a bit with some adorable photos of little Prince wearing it. He has been having a terrible flare up of eczema at the moment, so I will spare you the distressing photos here.)

The Swaddle GroBag is great for newborns and infants up to 7.1kg

Gro Snug: 2-in-1 Swaddle Gro Bag

The Swaddle Gro Bag is a safer way of swaddling baby without the fuss of folding, tucking and wrapping baby. With the Swaddle Gro Bag, you simply put bubs inside and secure them, and zip it up to prevent them squirming out of it. This particular one offers the option of even letting baby’s arms out with the buttons provided. This would be great for babies who love to feel snug, but want their hands free, or to transition out of a Swaddle. The zipper makes it easy to change baby, and zips all the way around for ease of use. The wider design around the hips and legs
Price: around $49.95
Where to buy: The Gro Company store or select baby stores
Sizes and togs available: Newborn (2.3-5.5kg) and Newborn plus (4kg-7.1kg); light and cosy styles

The Swaddle GroBag zips from the top and has two buttons on each arm so you can swaddle arms in or out

My observations:
Size: Newborn Tog: 1.0tog (cosy)
As I couldn’t try this on a real baby, I wasn’t able to physically see it in action yet!
The Zipper: Zipping from top to bottom, this allows you to change bubs in the middle of the night with minimal disturbance. It may be a little difficult to get on a fidgety baby, but otherwise it is built sturdy and works brilliantly.
The buttons: Two snaps on each arm allows baby to have their arms in, out, or one of each (for swaddle transitioning). This is a great option over just swaddles that zip up with no option to let the arms free. They are easy to open and close and you can tuck the fabric  out of the way when you aren’t using them.
The snug-look: the contoured shape makes for a snug fit, keeping bub from startling. The wider hip design ensures the swaddle is hip heathy and not too constrictive.
The Tog Rating: the 1.0tog Rating is good for spring and early summer. The material is nice and breatheable, too!

Overall, purely from observation, this swaddle GroBag is amazing! I love the snaps o the shoulders which allow for you to let the arms free or swaddle (or do one of each). Zipping from the top can be a little hard with a squirmy baby, but makes it easier for changes at night. The colours are cute and the penguin pop print is just precious! They come in two weights, cosy and light, so good for any weather. It looks so snug yet loose in the hips. This is a great option for a swaddle and is much easier than wrapping with a blanket (and a bit safer for baby, too)!
